Coco avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel)

Interesting look at the rise of Coco Chanel, but the movie is somewhat distant, tame and chaotic. Tautou does a great job.

The Messenger

The story of these Casualty Notification officers is moving and an interesting perspective to the war. But the storyline is patchy and anecdotal, which makes it boring at times and confusing at other times.

The Burning Plain

Gripping story that is beautifully told puzzle piece by piece, beautifully shot and beautifully acted. Written and directed by Arriaga, who also wrote the impressive 21 Grams and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

Duplicity

Two former spies, their relationship, and how they try to double cross their employers. Gilroy tries to duplicate some of the tricks he performed in his prior movie, Michael Clayton, and tried to add a romantic-comedy-twist. Perhaps that's why he called this one Duplicity. Unfortunately it doesn't live up to that movie in any respect. Not very original and not very engaging. It's actually down right boring. The only thing worth watching is the performance of Giamatti, which is excellent as usual.

Love Hurts

Mildly amusing, even though Grant's performance is terrible.

Iron Man

James Bond meets Batman meets The Thunderbirds. In other words, not very original. Then again, lots of blowing up stuff, so that's alright.

Away We Go

Quirky, funny, endearing, a little gem. Mendes blends an eclectic mix of quirky characters with humour and little moving moments of drama. Supported by a calm tempo and solid soundtrack.
