Feels very real and gritty and arty, but is actually long-winded and predictable and only occasionally engaging. Phoenix does a good job portraying an unlikeable screw-up, but his character stays shallow as do the characters of Paltrow and Shaw.

The most striking feature of this movie is the performance of Ronan and Tucci. Both prove to be the finest of actors. As for the story, I found the visualisations of "Susie in between heaven and earth" beautifully shot yet unnecessary, distracting, not contributing to the storyline. The ending was unsatisfying. I haven't read Sebold's original novel, but if this movie is anything to go by then I don't feel inclined to.

Disturbing, in many ways. Least of all morally. Refreshing to see a science fiction movie with substance. Keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

This thriller-drama is neither thrilling nor dramatic. The script is lame and the acting below average. You can see Hathaway regretfully thinking "why did I agree to do this movie?"

Sparkling verbal banter, Rudd gives a good performance and Lynch is hilarious. Enjoyable despite predictability.
