I Love You, Man

Funny male friendship romantic comedy kind of movie. Gets a little dull half way through but picks up at the end. Great script in the places where the comedy is subtle, boring in places it goes American Pie on you. Good chemistry between Rudd and Segel and Rudd and Jones.

The Hurt Locker

Thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat for two hours. Makes the stress and frustration of the soldiers in Iraq very tangible. BAFTAs for best director and best movie are well-deserved.

It’s Complicated

Uncomplicated and unpretentious. Nice to see a romantic comedy about older-than-twenty-somethings for a change.

The Invention of Lying

Clever and very funny. Has Monty Python-esque humour at times, even. Especially the making up of religion is hilarious. Funny cameos from Tina Fey, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Edward Norton.

Sunshine Cleaning

Endearing and smart story from the producers of Little Miss Sunshine. With a wonderful collection of quirky characters and a multi-layered storyline that takes you from laughter to tenderness and respect. Arkin is a blast as grandpa, again. And Adams, and especially Blunt, are fabulous.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

The worst science-fiction movie I ever saw. Moralistic on the level of a 5 year old, ridiculous plot, scientifically flawed, acting is poor, plot is void of suspense. A time waster.

Last Chance Harvey

Hoffman and Thompson are both very good at playing their respective vulnerable characters, and the story is sympathetic enough. But these two acting giants have absolutely no chemistry. So the movie ends up emotionally void.

10 Items or Less

Has a slow start, but steadily grows on you and becomes more interesting. Nice chemistry between Freeman and Vega. Sympathetic indie movie.
